Angela Pham Mr. Kakes World Lit/Writ 8 August 2012 Big Mama’s Funeral service Big Mama is a rather large person, giving her the name Big Mother. She is regarded as a mother to the people of Macondo because she provides them with anything they need and she is a queenlike figure to them.

Big Mama’s Funeral by simply Gabriel Garcia Marquez is about a woman given the title of massive Mama. The girl with the leader of Macondo. Marquez uses her to represent corruption on federal government and in the case, the government your woman runs. Big Mama is known as a corrupt head.

Then, her funeral became a festivity and party of her death and everyone who arrived did not treatment that she had just passed away because she was a corrupt head and they are cheerful that she has passed away. Big Mama symbolizes a dodgy government, and Marquez uses dark laughter and hyperboles often to show how folks are being joyful instead of grieving at the funeral service. Big Mother represents a corrupt government. She arranges marriages in case where the blood related members of a family marry inside each other. That practice is the way she’s able to stay in power for quite some time.

Marquez attempts to show that some governments can be corrupt and for some reason she has all of the people assuming it is alright or that there is nothing damaged happening. “On the margin of the standard family, the exercise with the jus primae noctis, (199). Her “official family is all of the family members related by blood in some way. She has them marry each other. Her family would not react to what she is undertaking. Big The female has been employing that practice for too long and in some manner the family thinks that it must be okay on her to do that and they are afraid of her.

Big Mama does this practice so no one new or perhaps someone the lady does not understand can attempt to have a chance to take her position. The time that Big Mama features ruled “For many years, Big Mama experienced guaranteed the social peacefulness and politics harmony of her empire by, 3 trunks filled with forged electoral certificates which formed part of her secret estate (207). Big The female is able to live in power by forging “electoral certificates. The certificates are similar to voting for a president. She forges these people and uses fake votes so she can earn the selection.

Also, the “men in her assistance, her proteges, and renters.. exercised not simply their own rights of suffrage but as well those of electors dead for any century (207-208). She has been forging ballots for a very long time. Marquez believes that data corruption is a thing funny when ever in reality, it is far from. Thus, applying dark wit to make data corruption seem funny when it is a serious matter. Big Mama uses the people who have been dead over a hundred years, votes for making it look like she has even more votes plus more people voting for her whenever there is an election.

There are no new rulers from the time she has used power. Very many people usually do not like her and are forced to follow her rules as they are afraid of her and the amount of electricity she has frightens them. The individuals only attend her burial in hopes of gaining something because of how well known she actually is and her position in society. They already know many people are going to be right now there because the girl with like a celeb. They do not value her or that this wounderful woman has died. People call the afternoon of her funeral “the great day. “The great day experienced arrived (212). In the pavements crowded with carts, hawkers, or toast foods, and lottery joints, and guys with snakes wrapped around their necks (212). The great day is definitely the day of her funeral service. But , there are numerous carts and stands filled with fried foodstuff. Most funerals do not usually have carts with fried meals around. The “men with snakes bring entertainment uses and are merely there to produce a profit mainly because all the vendors know that most people is participating in the burial. It is humorous that there is entertainment and fun at a funeral.

This is certainly an instance of dark joy because rather they have entertainment and food carts for a memorial and are not really mourning. They do not really attention that the lady died. The “Duke of Marlborough, overcame their c hatred of massive Mama, and came to her funeral to inquire for, the payment with their veterans’ retirement benefits which they was waiting for to get sixty years (212). They will came to the funeral and asked for the cash Big Mom owed these people after 60 years. They know that she gets just died. That is the best time to collect the money the girl owes them because the girl cannot prevent them via getting their cash.

They have hated her over a hundred years and make a decision that the day time of her funeral may be the day to finally obtain their money back. Following the funeral, “No one noticed that the nephews, godchildren, of Big Mama shut the doors when the body was taken out, ¦pulled the fingernails out of the boards, and dug up the footings to divide up the house (214). The family of Big Mama and everybody that is considered to be family with her do not possibly care about her and as soon as her body was out of the house they start to split up the house.

Her nephews are ecstatic that she has passed away because right now they can move on and just forget about her. They may be happy rather than sad. Marquez uses darker humor to exhibit how individuals are festive in the funeral and hyperboles to truly emphasize that you have many people at the funeral service. On the first page in the story, the sentence starting the story is “Now the fact that nation, which was shaken to its vitals, has reclaimed its balance, the time to low fat a stool against the front door, before the historians have one other chance to get at it (197-198).

The sentence in your essay is actually a entire paragraph and semicolons to separate your lives the people who have attend. The sentence is usually telling that is at the funeral and exactly where they come via. Marquez uses hyperboles to emphasise the numerous numbers of people who are generally there and that they come from all over the world. Marquez uses darker humor to demonstrate how folks are not grieving because your woman dies but are celebrating. They call it “the great day because she’s gone after many years and her family is relieved that she actually is gone and so they do not have to pay attention to her ever again.

When someone passes away people mourn but in this case, Big Mama passes away but many people are celebrating with a event instead of a correct funeral. Her family is prepared to move on because “as quickly as your body was taken out, ripped the fingernails or toenails out of the planks, and dug up to fundamentals to give away the house (214). Once her body is gone they cannot leave the house just how it is but start to break it and tear this apart since they want to totally forget her and something that reminds them of her. Another affectation used is usually when “the garbage males will come and may sweep up the garbage from her funeral, forever and ever (214).

There isn’t “garbage that is certainly swept up forever and will have an unlimited amount of time to clean. The “garbage represents every one of the wrong and corrupt items that Big Mama will and it will have a very long time to solve what she gets caused. In summary, Big Mama represents corruption in a authorities and the people that attend her funeral will not care that she passes away, Marquez uses dark laughter to show how people are honoring by using hyperboles to emphasize the simple fact that there is a great deal of people in the funeral.

Big Mama makes her family members to marry each other thus she can stay in electricity. The people in Macondo abide by her because they are afraid of her. The people on the funeral make use of the fact that the girl with very popular in order to make money or gain something. The dark humor Marquez uses is usually to show that folks are remembering her loss of life and it is humorous because by funerals, individuals are sad and mourning At Big Mama’s funeral, individuals are having fun and it is similar to a carnival.
