One persona in the love triangle described in the novella “The Ballad of the Unfortunate Caf?, ” by Carson McCullers, is usually unworthy of affection. Miss Amelia, a terme conseillé with macho characteristics and little consideration, gains happiness and pleasure from Lymon at first and comes to trust him. Sadly, it gradually becomes very clear that Lymon is actually grotesque, selfish and devious.
Physically, Lymon is represented as “a hunchback. Having been scarcely much more than four foot tall¦ His crooked thighs seemed thinner to carry the weight of his superb warped torso and the hump on his shoulders” (6). He’s also poor, carrying “a bag packed with manners of junk” (8). Between staying grotesque and poor, he tried to take upon Miss Amelia’s heartstrings in order to attract her in to her scam. He may have had an inclination that because she also had unappealing physical qualities, she would be more likely to have him in.
Lymon uses Miss Amelia’s love and devotion for his own selfish gains. This individual takes advantage of Miss Amelia’s “lonesome looks with the lover” (23), using it to get the center of activity at the caf?: “It was the hunchback who was most responsible for the truly great popularity of the caf? inch (39). Miss Amelia was not socially likely and may not have made it popular on her individual. Lymon were able to gain her trust, which no one acquired ever performed before, and one may suppose it’s because the girl loved him. He took advantage of her trust simply by learning the key to her alcohol, taking her money openly, and getting her to purchase a piano to get him.
Finally, Lymon is a very devious character. This is certainly shown in the first “meeting” between himself and Marvin: “It had not been the look of two strangers getting together with for the first time and swiftly summing up one another. It was a peculiar condition they sold between them, like the look of two criminals who recognize each other. “(46) Lymon also flaps his ears in an unusual method, which he previously only performed for Miss Amelia prior to ” an indication that he previously a previous romance with Marvin Macy. None man provides an explanation. Lymon follows Marvin around at a distance, as though frightened, and Marvin seems angry with Lymon, also indicating that the men have a history.
Lymon isn’t only a character with unappealing physical attributes, this individual also has a shameful figure and is not worthy of your trust ” especially certainly not that of Miss Amelia, who also trusts so very little to begin with.
