Introduction

Death is inevitable and everyone must be ready to confront death. Mcdougal of, “If we must die makes use of diverse literary devices to describe fatality and to motivate people to end up being brave but not to fear loss of life. People probably should not just pass away like hogs or puppies although human beings are far outnumbered by loss of life, they must stay brave to handle death when it comes. Death does not have waste, it gets whoever it wants with the time this best things is right.

Fatality is a coward since it simply cannot come in people when they find out or after they expect.

Analysis in the Poem

The poem by Mr. Claude McKay, “If we must die, written to urge the black individuals to fight for all their freedom against the oppressions with the whites, portrays different fictional devices utilized to bring out the message from the poem for the reader (Charters, and Samuel, 896).

The various devices used in the poem contain allegory, vocally mimic eachother, metaphor which involves animal imagery, as seen in various enjoys through the use of distinct words just like “hogs,  in line 1 and other words and phrases such as “hunted,  “penned,  that are found in line 2 (Charters, and Samuel, 896). Furthermore, the author uses words just like “mad and hungry dogs,  and “bark present in line a few of the poem, “monsters,  in line 7 and the expression “cowardly pack in line 13 to show dog imagery for the reader (Charters, and Samuel, 896).

The utilization of hyperbole is definitely observed if the author produces the words, “If we must perish, let it not be like hogs found in line 1 of the poem as well as, “and for their 1000 blows offer one death-blow in line 14 (Charters, and Samuel, 896). Furthermore, mcdougal of the composition has used onomatopoeia which is seen through the word “bark (Charters, and Samuel, 896). To help make the reader even more intrigued and part of the poem, the author creates a question that is certainly rhetorical which is found in range 12 in which he says “What though ahead of us is placed the available grave? 

The use of this kind of question is intended to act as a reminder to the audience that loss of life is inescapable and everyone will face death at a single point in life and so what do human beings deal with to lose when they die? Mcdougal of this poem uses the majority of these literary gadgets as a way of creating a sense of desperation so that the target audience is always prepared and aware about the happenings in life and about death (Charters, and Samuel, 896). The author has also created the poem using 18 lines besides the rhyme plan which has been used of ababcdcdefefgg hence which makes it a Shakespeare sonnet (Charters, and Samuel, 896). The other literary device the writer has used is repetition which can be seen through words such as “If we should die which has been repeated inside the poem twice in line one particular and range 5.

Conclusion

Every human being is likely to face death when their time comes. This does not show that people ought not to be ready is to do their best to fight against injustice and oppression which leads to the fatality of humans. By using the different literary equipment, the author in the poem encourages people to become brave against death and should not dread when they are up against circumstances.
