The lady never had the opportunity to expand at her own tempo and this was something that her mother was required to live with every single day for the rest of her life.
Parental control also can work against a parent/child relationship since even if a young child is accomplished, rebellion can destroy opportunities and understanding. Jing-Mei might have possessed what was needed to be a prodigy nevertheless she put in all of her energy resisting her mom, so she will never find out. While this might seem simple at the moment, we see how this thought troubles Jing-Mei until her mature life. The piano was just like a ghost looming only behind them and even as a grown-up, Jing-Mei’s mother believes her daughter simply did not try. Jing-Mei declares that the lady could not have already been a genius but the truth is that neither one of them will never know because so much energy was wasted upon arguing about the keyboard. It is interesting to not any time her mother offers the piano to her, the girl looks at that like a “shiny trophy I had fashioned won back” (9). Additionally , in the final scene when ever she is taking a look at the piano and pressing the tips, she updates the names of the pieces of the songs. Their very own titles demonstrate the changes Jing-Mei went through due to the keyboard and they also represent her mother’s dream that died in the process. Jing-Mei under no circumstances believed in very little long enough to find out the truth behind her skill because of her rebellion and her single mother’s control.
Two Kinds” demonstrates how harmful parental control can be every time a child is forced to do something that he or she does not wish, or simply cannot, do. Jing-Mei suffers with the hand of her mother but it is not intentional. Her mom does not mean for making her undergo but the lady cannot discover beyond her own would like to understand how the girl with damaging Jing-Mei. Controlling an additional individual rarely ever works since it is simply not naturally made – no matter the reasons why. Skill becomes secondary in a battle of legal documents and, as a result, the truth from the situation are never known. Jing-Mei’s rebellion displays that are 2 different ways to encourage a child – one creates dreams and the other squashes them. “Two Kinds” is a story of truth that sometimes needs a lifetime to learn – controlling parents want the best because of their children but often get the worst from their store because control is more risky than effective.
