Presentation analysis dissertation

In David McCullough’s June 2012 Commencement Conversation You Are Not Exceptional, he argues that nobody is really particular. In this speech he is saying that everyone is equally somewhere and somehow. Though he is seems to be bashing the graduating class, he continue to adds encouraging words. Through the whole conversation he continuously states that you are not special, but then ending the presentation with saying, “You are certainly not special because everyone is.  I argue that both McCullough and Sierra use the strategies of adding assessment, list, and emotion to generate their speech and content convincing.

An article in answer to McCullough’s speech, Wide open Letter via a millennial: Quit Showing Us Were Not Particular written by a woman named Serranía on 06 25, 1012. Her response argues this speech is not appropriate for the graduating class whom are ready to accept the world. McCullough’s speech needs to be aimed towards parent’s generation. Sierra declares that the mother and father are responsible for the problems their children face.

In the real world the high school degree is useless.

Comparisons are being used in both McCullough’s and Sierras work. Sierra uses the evaluations to review what we know now to our childhood remembrances, such as the dental fairy. “We stopped trusting in our individual specialness throughout the same period we halted believing inside the tooth fairy.  She’s saying that for a young grow older, we realized that we are quite a bit less special since everyone said we were. McCullough uses comparisons as well. At the start of his speech he compares the high school degree or diploma to matrimony.

Unlike relationships, we are unable to separate, divorce, from our degrees and diplomas, like we may our husband and wife. Both McCullough and Sierra use email lists to convince their viewers. In Sierras article the lady uses list to show just how as teenagers and children we depend on our father and mother. Stating that they do work for you personally, and then call you laid back or sharing with and instructor that an “A is not adequate enough and the list continues. Your woman uses list to receive her way. Rather than only stating 1 fact, the girl gives them all. In McCullough’s speech, he uses email lists as well.

He states that children had been pampered, given, catered to, and so on. He uses this kind of to receive across that we have been babied our whole lives, therefore will we all be prepared for the real world? He also uses list with figures stating that somewhere an individual is just like you. McCullough uses “There will be 3. 2 million seniors from 37, 000 excessive schools.  He goes on on together with the numbers of course presidents, swagger jackers, and pairs of Uggs. This really is to get across that no one differs from the others and there is often another person with the exact same issue as you.

McCullough uses even more humor. Can make the talk less offensive to the audience. While scanning this speech you don’t notice the humor much, but when actually observing the speech it is even more humorous to the crowd. What some may think is usually humorous others might not. In conclusion, even though both equally use similar strategies inside their work McCullough’s article is somewhat more persuasive. This individual makes you in fact think that you’re not special with the help of comparisons, prospect lists and thoughts.
