twenty six July 2005 – A usual day at junior college while i was day dreaming through another spiel. In the background I could hear weighty rains lashing down. The skies were remarkably dark for even a monsoon day in Mumbai.
I inspected my clock there were just another 15 minutes for the lecture. After the lecture, We and my pal Sahil left for Matunga station for taking a local educate home. Right now my college or university is about 15 miles coming from where My spouse and i stay and that we usually went by the local trains back and forth. As expected, the trains were delayed due to monsoons.
Much more than an hour and there were still no locomotives. Finally there was announcement the trains have been completely cancelled consistently till this particular clears away. We panicked and attempted getting a taxi to no avail. Chartering were trapped due to normal water logging while travelling. The situation made worse as cellphone network went down. We could not really connect to anyone for support neither can we make sure them to get our basic safety. It was say chaos. There were thousands of people driving walking all their way through the water. There were the option of going for walks back the whole way of home.
But it was extremely hazardous due to available manhole protects which will be invisible above the accumulated water. We were worried and naive on that which you do during such a tragedy. College was your safest place that we knew of close by. College had no electrical power and there was clearly water for the knee level. It was incredibly dark as well as the winds with thunderstorms offered it a spooky moon like feeling. There were others just like us who had taken shelter in the college. Some had been crying and some others had been consoling them.
It was cardiovascular system touching to determine humanity in such major times. Some arranged for food from what was remaining in the canteen. Some acquired candles from the college store room. Ordinary people turned into unpredicted Samaritans simply by helping full strangers risking their hails from process. In the morning was not because sunny and bright We as I experienced liked that to be. The rain had reduced. This particular level acquired receded. We and Sahil decided to start the way house. It was a memorable journey in itself. The had not retreated enough intended for trains and buses to get started on.
We had to walk some miles, climb up behind a lorry another few and use a rubberized dinghy to ferry pertaining to remaining a lot of. Finally we all reached the respective homes. I cried as I hugged my mom. The experience changed my life in so many ways. I discovered to admiration “Mother nature” and devastation caused from her wrath. That strengthened my love for family and friends and it gave meaning towards the feeling “we cannot try this alone”. Various people misplaced lives, family and things. I began appreciating what little The almighty has offered me. We felt blessed to have survived such tough times.
