During the times of slavery many people opposed the thought of forcing someone to perform everything i have heard it said, to own an individual. They believed in the freedom of others and to handle everyone equally. There were a large number of abolitionists and slave narratives who needed their side of the story to be observed.
Aunt Harriet Smith was obviously a black female from Homestead Texas and Aunt Phoebe Boyd coming from Dunnsville Virginia, both slave narratives. Great aunt Harriet Jones was committed to Jim Smith. They will white people killed her husband and she by no means knew how come they would perform such anything, he was a respectable man whom went to cathedral and always do what he was told (Soul, 2003).
During one of her interviews Harriet was asked how long back she may remember from her servant days, the girl could bear in mind all the way back when she was thirteen years old. Harriet can successfully remember everyone’s titles as well, all the white kids, her owner, everyone with the slaves she was around, and people the girl came into contact with on a regular basis. Her owner got first acquired her granny and starting from that point owned the rest of her family from there on down. One thing the girl was incredibly faithful to was cathedral.
They allowed the white-colored people to head to church in the morning and the dark-colored people were permitted to go at nighttime. They had a white preacher and he was always showing them to act themselves. If the black slaves were to action up then this preacher could tell there owners and in addition they would be punished. She presumed that there was a Our god, and he would help them. The slaves were never taught to read and write, the sole gossip they had was the reports they noticed during cathedral about slaves being roughed up.
This was anything all the slaves would speak about when they found each other and were able to communicate and discuss. Harriet declared that the white-colored people were great to all of them. Her owner never damage any of them. Her owner cured her well and anytime her and her family would hear about slaves being mistreated it might shock them. They sensed bad for the slaves that had been being mistreated. At one particular point in her interview she was asked why the girl went by Cousin Harriet Smith and the girl said by simply putting the term Aunt facing her name was a signal of respect, and people well known her.
Throughout the Civil Warfare, she could remember sitting with her two cousins on the light picket wall just watching the vehicles driving along the road. They loved the white picket fence and their owner did not care in the event they say presently there. They would observe the troops all day long walk up and down the road. One of the reasons they will loved observing so much mainly because all the soldiers were colored soldiers (Smith, 1941). During the whole interview Aunt Harriet Smith was very positive, she usually hoped for the best and don’t really have everything to say that was too unfavorable.
Even when your woman talked about her husband getting killed, the sole thing she held talking about was how good of a man he was. She never turned the conversation in a negative one particular. Aunt Phoebe Boyd was also a slave narrative. The girl was extremely fond of god and always assumed that anything better was coming.
