Dante’s Inferno heralded an innovation in Christian theology through its innovative use of poetic justice, historical and modern figures, and classical mythology. By incorporating these disparate elements into a single, cohesive composition, Dante successfully changed the way the Western world dreamed the what bodes and Terrible in particular. By focusing on the facts of the moments and the identities of those which the imaginary Dante converses with, Inferno illustrates a horrifyingly genuine and immediate vision of Hell, one which has persisted at least in some portion to this day. Simply by focusing on the private journey of one man through the afterlife, the focus of the story is altered onto someone, who can easily identify with Dante as the first-person narrator. While the conditions surrounding the creation from the Divine Comedy Dante’s relégation from Florence, his show up from personal grace, great eventual death soon after the completion of his magnum gyvas are alternatively tragic, they all contribute to Dante’s work in a way which colors the text and provides it a personality and keenness which is still believed to this day. Pertaining to seven hundred years, Inferno features elicited good responses from the readers via fascination to revulsion and everything between (Raffa 5). Regardless regarding the readership, the response to Tormento has been, and will continue to be, anything but apathetic.
