The destiny of oedipus and pentheus essay

I am going to compare and contrast Oedipus coming from Sophocles’s Oedipus the King and Pentheus from Euripides’s Bacchae. The between both of them is that Oedipus encounters the eye of fact after carrying out the actions and as a result, his heart can be surrounded with the feeling of discomfort and misery, woe, anguish leading him to specially punish and take payback against himself whereas regarding Pentheus, his foolish and grumpy frame of mind leads him to perform activities in attraction which results in undoubtedly punishing himself with death by the hands of his own mom and thus allows Dionysus to adopt revenge against him great family.

Speaking about Oedipus, he was the king of Thebes and an excellent ruler of his instances. He supported being good to his citizens and was a supportive and merciful king. While the entire associated with Thebes is usually attacked with a harmful disease known as plaque, he requires Tiresias to give a solution towards the problem, that is when he learns that this individual himself is definitely the culprit as he has done intense deeds of marrying his mother and killing his own dad.

The Quote below supports these thesis declaration in detail However would not have found kill my father and marry my mom infamously. I am godless and kid of impurity

Begetter in the same seeds that made my wretched self. If you have any unwell worse than ill, This is the lot of Oedipus (Oedipus the King. 1358-1363). When Oedipus acknowledges the fact of his life, in a moment his feeling of pride in becoming an honest and constant king transforms in to someone who is a killer and not worth being known as human. As we can understand fully from the above passing that Oedipus is cursing himself as he is the killer of his father plus the woman this individual married is definitely non-e besides his own mother. His heart is cluttered with vauge pain and struggling as he results in the truth about his partner.

The term “godless suggests of being immoral or creating a devil attitude and not worshipping god. Oedipus symbolizes himself with the expression godless since the action performed by him made him a sinner even though he was a good believer in god. The text “child of impurity means something which can be not with a pure sense and Oedipus uses the text for him self as he offers committed a great intensely contaminated deed of marrying and sleeping together with his mother and therefore have become contaminated in thoughts and actions. It is without a doubt an unfortunate situation where Oedipus has innocently landed himself.

When he says, “Begetter inside the same seed that made my wretched self (Oedipus the King. 1361) it means that Oedipus is embarrassed with the fact that he made babies with the woman who once created his own personality by giving him birth. He can unable to break down the fact and believe that he slept along with his own mom. When Oedipus says, “If there is any ill more serious than ill (Oedipus the King. 1362) means that he has become a patient of the worst thing that may ever affect humankind on this planet. He seems as if he has tricked his father and mother and all the gods and so he should get the most difficult punishment at any time received simply by any human being in the whole galaxy.

Further when Oedipus relates to know that his life has become based on the seeds of evil deeds, he makes a decision to take revenge against him self as he is definitely ashamed of the actions determined by him. The Offer below by Oedipus determines the above level Darkness! Fear of night enfolding, resistless, unspeakable visitant sped Simply by an unwell wind in haste! Madness and stabbing pain and memory Of evil deeds I have performed! (Oedipus the king. 1313-1317) The above verse illustrates the feeling of remorse that compels Oedipus to punish himself harshly. The words “Horror of darkness enfolding means the risk or the horrifying effect of night.

Oedipus uses the word darkness to emphasize his blindness. This individual understands given that all these years he was sightless to the truth of his life so now this individual wanted to hurt himself by causing himself bodily blind to be able to take payback for his own activities. The word “resistless means not possible to avoid or overpowering. Oedipus is not able to resist coming from punishing him self as he seems burdened by terrible deeds performed simply by him of killing his father and taking his own mother as his wife. Oedipus uses these kinds of words to express his feelings and feelings while he his harming his individual body and soul.

The statement of Oedipus, “Madness and stabbing pain and memory (Oedipus the full. 1316) signifies his frustration and letdown to such an extent that has led him to stab his eyes with cutlery just as the drift in the sin fully commited by him is stabbing his heart. He does not have a control on his mind ever again and his enduring is not bearable. The words “evil deeds is a symbol of the cruel actions of Oedipus as he murders his own dad and gets children by his individual mother. As a result, we come to master that the reaction of Oedipus towards the whole event is by choosing revenge against himself for his personal wrongdoing.

Speaking about Pentheus, having been the ruler of Thebes and had an extremely arrogant attitude. He thought that all he was also supreme to god and so did not feel the need to value the the almighty. The Quotation below by Bacchae points out the above point I shall give your our god the sacrifice that he deserves. His victims will probably be his girls. I shall make an excellent slaughter in the woods of Cithaeron. (The Bacchae, 796-798) From the above quote, we can see that Pentheus is included with pride to be a ruler and thus disrespects god and is also ready to sacrifice all the bacchants in order to educate a lesson to the god.

The word ‘deserves’ means right here that he will probably take vengeance against the goodness by dealing with him badly by killing all his bacchants. The text ‘great slaughter in the forest of Cithaeron’ means that he would have a huge party by sacrificing the women and therefore humiliating the god. Though he believes himself to being very powerful and witty, makes a mistake in recognizing the actual intentions of Dionysus. Thus, the utter foolishness of Pentheus to get trusting the motives of Dionysus qualified prospects him to death by his individual mother. The Quote beneath from Bacchae explains these point

“No, no, Mom! I are Pentheus, your own child, the child you bore to Echion! Shame me, spare me, Mother! i have done a wrong, but do not destroy your individual son pertaining to my criminal offense. (The Bacchae, 1118-1121) The above passing illustrates the efforts taken by Pentheus to convince her mother never to kill him when he knows his problem of having faith in Dionysus and at the same time of disrespecting him as the the almighty. He tries his far better explain to his mother about his personality but as he could be dressed in women clothes great mother was not in her senses and so she ends his lifestyle very cruelly.

The line “No, no, Mother! I are Pentheus displays the in depth of request and pleadings that Pentheus does to his mother in order to certainly not punish him with loss of life. The words “i have done a wrong tells us that he realizes his mistake which is pretty aware of the consequences of his actions and thus really wants to some just how escape from the terrible fortune gifted to him by Dionysus. Thus, the above pictures clearly indicate the difference between your situations of Oedipus and Pentheus plus the way they react to their very own respective reducing fates.
