This was named the Freedom Ride, and the college students became well known as the ‘Freedom Riders’.

The aim of the liberty riders was going to highlight the racism described in the ‘White Australia Policy’ which was generated within effect during Federation by Sir Edmund Barton. The policy meant that the Aborigines were prohibited, or in some instances separated via whites, in shops, cinemas, hotels and clubs and public pools. The freedom riders were by speaking and actually abused in most towns they will visited during protest. The freedom rides were influenced by racism that was taking place in the usa, where there was also segregation between the light and dark-colored community.

This was an international break through. Charles Perkins was also a sports star which usually gave him the opportunity to travel quiet often. On a large number of occasions this individual witnessed ethnic abuse in the country towns of New South Whales, where a large number of Aboriginals were degraded in society. Charles Perkins would not experience much racism as he was raised inside the city compared to other Aboriginals who were cared for harshly. Following witnessing splendour against his own race he immediately took action. The freedom voyages that were occurring in the US encouraged him to act in a similar manner.

Charles Perkins along with his University support travelled almost all throughout New South Whales. Perkins seen the racism that occurred in a town called Moree where Original children would have been to shower just before entering the pool and leave for a certain period. There was a whole lot of physical violence that came about in Moree due to its ethnic outcasts. Charles Perkins used his stardom to acquire his expression out there that Aboriginals must not be degraded in any way. The students had been both literally and by speaking abused, therefore decided to protest along numerous other Aboriginals.

The Freedom Cyclists goal was finally achieved in the 1967 referndum which will stated that Aboriginals can be classed as citizens of Australia and would be counted in the census votes.
